The play first was used by Ne
braska in 1979 — against Okla
homa.
“I’m sorry we showed them
how to do that,’’ Osborne said.
“That guy wasn’t even that fast.”
The teams traded field goals,
and the Huskers led 25-18 at
halftime.
Nebraska drove 80 yards in nine
plays to start the second half, cap
ping it with a 23-yard touchdown
pass from Gdowski to Garrett. Split
end Morgan Gregory then caught a
38-yard touchdown pass from
Gdowski with 3:37 remaining in
the third quarter. The extra point
gave the Huskers a 39-18 lead
going into the fourth quarter.
After another guard around
scamper by Sawal/ky, this time for
six yards to the 1, Perry scored his
second touchdown of the day.
Barrios then added a 35-yard
field goal with two minutes left to
play to seal the victory.
“I thought we had a chance with
our play-action stuff,” he said.
“Alter a while, you get into a
groove. But you’ve also got to keep
it in perspective, and not throw
where you have no business throw
ing.”
Gdowski said his success in a
game depends on his teammates.
“I’m glad our offense pro
gressed the way it did this year,” he
said. “Anything I do, lOothcrguys
get credit for it.”
Osborne couldn’t keep from
praising his team’s effort this sea
son.
“Of the teams I’ve coached, this
one came as close to reaching its
full potential as any we’ve had
here,” Osborne said.
Though bowl officials cannot
officially extend invitations until
Saturday, the win against Okla
homa virtually ajjpured Nebraska of
a trip to the Sunkist-Fiesla Bowl,
where the Huskers will play Florida

rushers with ‘M yards on 21 tames.
Gregory had three receptions lor 53
yards and a touchdown, while three
other Nebraska receivers - Bell,
Garrett and wmgback Nate Turner
-- had at least 40 yards receiving.

prised at the ease the Huskers had
passing against Oklahoma.

Gdowski said there still is "a
sliver of hope" for a national title
for the Huskers, but he won’t be
holding his breath waiting for it.
"We played our best (this sea
son), even when we lost," Gdowski
said. *41 said before the year started,
the team that gets the national
championship will get some
breaks.
"We just didn’t get those breaks
this year."
