His father was a Husker co-captain in 1967. Ben Gregory rushed for 1,062 yards and caught 36 passes for 456 yards in his three-year Nebraska career. Gregory said his father’s accom plishments did not have a big influ ence on his decision to become a Husker. “He didn’t influence me as much as people might think,” Gregory said. ‘‘He just told me what I could expect coming here. That was some thing I couldn’t get from other schools.” Last year Gregory led the Huskers in receiving with 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Those accomplishments helped him cam honorable-mention All Big Eight honors. They also helped him enter this season tied for 44th on the Nebraska career receiving chart with 26 catches for 297 yards and two touch downs. Brown said Gregory’s accom plishments do not go unnoticed. “Morgan plays with a lot of poise,’’ Brown said. “He runs excel lent routes, and has really soft hands. “One thing that goes unnoticed is * his perimeter blocking. In our offense we need good blocking to run around the comers and he is an excellent perimeter blocker.’’ KANSAS from Page 7 limiting Kansas to a hitting percent age of .000 on 25 kills. “I thought we did some things really well,” Nebraska coach Terry Pettit said. ‘‘I thought we ran our middle really well with Carla and Virginia (Stahr). I thought we ran our block really well, but we had too many service errors.” Nebraska committed 10 service errors in the match. Baker led the Huskers in blocks with nine - three unassisted. Stahr, who was named the Big Eight Player of the Week for her performance last week, established a new career mark for service aces with 150, which bettered the old mark held by former Husker Lori Endicott. Stahr’s ace came in the second game, which put the Huskers on top of the Jayhawks 6-0, but had a serv ice error on her next serve. After Kansas scored its first point of that game to cut the lead to five, Kruse served for seven straight points to put the Huskers up 13-1, with Baker slamming three consecutive kills in that stretch. Nebraska setter Val Novak, who had 36 assists in the match and two service aces, ended the game with her second ace of the match. In the first game, Kansas jumped ahead 3-0 on three straight service errors by Nebraska. The Jayhawks went on to leads of 3-1,4-2 and 5-3 before Nebraska took control of the match. Shannon ended the game witn a pair of kills off serves by Novak. Kansas was ahead 2-0 and 3-2 in the third game before being kept scoreless until Nebraska had a sizeable 11-3 lead. The Huskers in creased the score to 14-4, before Kansas rallied and cut it in half at 14 7. Freshman Stephanie Thaler clinched the game and match with a block of a ball hit by the Jayhawks’ Shelly Jorgensen. Four reserves -- Beeky# Bolli, Val erie Vermeulen, Debbie Brand and Thaler - saw limited action in the match, as Pettit said he wanted to give his starters the opportunity to execute longer in preparation for Saturday’s match with 16th-ranked Illinois. “We wanted to get a rhythm going into this weekend so we needed to work on some things,” Pettit said. “We had some players who have been working hard in practice and who could also play a role this week end so I wanted to give them some playing time. More importantly, though, we wanted to establish a rhythm with Val and her attackers.” _GET ONE OF THESE I BACONRDOUBLE 123.J CHEESEBURGER with the purchase of a Bacon Double Cheeseburger, Large Fry, | and Regular Drink •Limit one coupon per person •Not good with any other offers ©Expires 12/15/89 I m*Good at all Lincoln locations buSc» I COUPON j&Sgi ON ALL 3 RECFIPTS ^ 0 DURING NOVEMBER ^ - WHEN YOU USE A GET CASH MAKE DEPOSITS BALANCE INQUIRIES I RANSFER BETWEEN ACCOUNTS CREDIT CARD ADVANCES THERE’S A MARTELLER$ NEAR YOU • 44th iiiid fMHfo • 14th and f„innv's • Ihth ami “S(”, Texaco • Uth and Adams, Kwik Shop • I Mh and Sooth, Gas > Plus • 44rd and Pioneers, fecaeo • 44rd and Hotdrege.
