Costume-shop owner says Halloween not the only time her business booms By Debra Witt Staff Reporter Halloween parties are not the only call for costumes, says the owner of Fringe and Tassel cos tume shop. Outfitting school and com munity plays, theme parties, business promotions, advertise ments, pageants and parades keeps costume shops busy year round, said Phyllis Spahn, owner of Fringe "and Tassel, located in the Haymarket at 735 OSt Halloween brings in the big gest flow ot business because the costume orders come in a “tight” time period, Spahn said. But plenty of businesses and organizations have a need for . costumes at other times of the year. Making and providing the costumes for school and com munity theaters is an account costume shops “need to have," Spahn said. With one community theater in Lincoln and several schools, she said, there is “something to do all the time." Fringe and Tassel does very little outside ordering for ready made costumes people want. If the store doesn’t have the cos tume in its supplies, workers , will make the costume accord ing to the special needs of the customer. The store gels its materials to make costumes by scouting the local stores and ordering through companies, Spahn said.
