The Tony Award-winning group is a professional ensemble of deaf and hearing actors currently on a national 50-city tour. klmMlT The NTD actors combine sign language with spoken word and cre ate a performance enjoyable to both hearing and deaf audiences. Over the last 19 years the NTD has given more than 5,000 performances in 24 countries. The performance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus is based on the classic adventure by Homer. The NTD’s production of “The Odyssey” begins inside the Trojan horse where Odysseus and his men are hidden and ready for battle. “The Odyssey” tells the story of Odysseus’ dangerous and mystical journey back to his family after the Trojan War of monsters, gods and natural disasters. Director of the performance Will Rhys has acted and directed in thea ters across the country including on and off-Broadway productions. David Hays, a leading Broadway scenic and lighting designer, founded the NTD in 1967. Since that time the NTD has received critical acclaim for its adaptations of the classics as well as its original works. Jim McShane, UNL English pro fessor, will give a pre-performance talk about ‘‘The Odyssey” at 7:30 p.m.in 119 Westbrook Music Build ing- . .
