Til be fine.” And speed, Darlington said, is one of Lewis biggest assets. “He's a good tackier and he understands what we do defensively very well," Darlington said, “and lie has very good speed — the pros were excited with him." Darlington said Lewis tested out high among Husker players in front or pro scouts last spring, including a top-five finish in the agility run. Nebraska strength and condition ing coach Boyd Epley said Lewis was last timed at 4.47 seconds in the 40 yard dash* Darlington said Lewis’ style of play is another strong point *‘He's a real aggressive guy, Darlington said. “He*s not a passive player at all — in coverage or in run support” Lewis said he never takes it easy on the field. “I try to play lOOpercent,” Lewis said. “I'm gonna' go out there and play lOOpercent, and if aplay conies my way, I’m going to attack the play 100 percent “If you want to call it aggressive, you can call it aggressive. Call it what you want, but so far it’s worked, as Lewis has started the last three games for the Huskers. He has tallied five, unassisted tackles, one assisted stop and has broken up a pass. And, if Lewis has it his way, he’ll have a big game against Oregon State even if people don’t remember his name. “As long as I’ve fulfilled my goals internally, that’s all I can do, * he said. QUBA from Page 13 McDermott in his one year as coach of the men’s and women’s teams. McDermott put her in the No. 1 posi tion, and she placed fifth at the Big Eight tournament. McDermott, though, decided to go back to coaching just the men. Guba said she agreed with his decision. 4 ‘The men were so much better, he needed to concentrate more time on them,” she said. “Besides, it was a lot better for us to have a full-time coach.” That doesn’t mean the transition from McDermott to new coach Gregg Calvin was easy, she said. Especially when her old coach practiced every day with his squad on the courts next door. “I felt really comfortable around Kerry,” she said. “He recruited me, and he spent so much time with me. So even though he wasn’t my coach, I kept going back to him. ‘‘I didn’t let Gregg get to know me that well.” Time has eased the differences between herself and her coach. ’.‘‘Now, Gregg and I get along per fectly,” she said. Guba said she hopes to finish among the top four in the Big Eight this year. In addition to her responsibilities as the No. 1 player, Guba has taken on the role of helping the freshmen adapt to the Husker program. Guba, Nancy Tyggum and Meghan Quinn are the most experienced players as juniors. Guba said she is confident the team will come around. The unity is exceptional, she said, and that will help the team improve. The dreams of playing as a pro have dimmed, she said. She said she is enjoying her classes, and she may try to get a job right out of college. Guba has three years to think about her future. Until she earns her degree as an international business major, she will continue the class practico-homework routine.
