The games will begin at 6 and 8 p.m. tonight at the NU softball com plex. All University of Nebraska Lincoln students who show their stu dent IDs will be admitted free. Nebraska, 1-1, opened its season last Friday against NAIA opponent Kearney State. The ComhuskerS lost the opening game by a score of 5-1. That loss marked the first time Kearney Stale defeated Nebraska since April 7, 1981. Nebraska won the second game 11-1 by the 10-run rule in'lhe fifth inning. The series record between Ne braska and UNO stands at 19-16, with die Huskers winnjng all three meet ings between the two teams last fall. Husker coach Ron Wolforth said Nebraska will have to play better than it did in the first game against Kear ney State in order to prevent the same pon results. “They’re (UNO) a good ball club,” Wolforth sa’id. “1 put them on the same par as Kearney. If we play fairly well, we should win the ball games. If we don’t play well, any thing can happen.” Although Wolforth said he wants to win, he re-emphasized the fact that the Huskers’ record during the fall season is irrelevant. He said he knows Nebraska will be a good team next spring - when the wins and losses count. “We’re just trying to make our improvements over the fall,” he said. “You can learn as much from losing as you can from winning.” Fourteen of Nebraska’s 18 players are freshmen and sophomores. The Huskers’ roster includes two seniors and two juniors, with both juniors, pitcher Stephanie Skegas and second baseman Michelle Cuddeford, being transfers. u was a ursi game anu u iuumu like a first game,” Wolforth said. “We’re going to look shaky at times.” Wolforth said he learned more about his players in the loss against Kearney State than he did in the Huskers’ 10-run victory. The first game was televised by NETV on a tape-delay basis. Wolforth said he forced himsclt to watch the contest. He said he was pleased to see that Nebraska did not look as bad as he thought “I wasn’t nearly as disappointed in our effort as when the game was going on,” he said. “I thought we were further along than I realized. Our hitting was better than I realized. We hit the ball hard, but I thought we were not as aggressive as we should be.” Wolforth said he was disappointed with the play of the outfield. Coming into the season, he said, the outfield was one of the Huskers’ strengths. The outfield has been slowed by the absence of center fielder Kristin See MAVERICKS on 9 I Itfwi I i I jam i (UROPlAN I T A N S P A Tanning Center i I Suite 216-2nd Level I Gold’s Galleria I ! 474-5355 I m L — — — — i_ COUP< 30% OFF j ALL PACKAGES ONLY 10 DAYS LEFT! with this coupon 'one MONTH $27.50 I unlimited uss ' '5 months' $59.00'' J unlimitsd uss 20 TANS $27.50 2 WEEKS Vl7'50"' | unlimitsd uss '" *10 TANS $i5.00 ’' j HURRY! ^ Offer expire* 10/01/89
