King’s If you’re looking for a taste of nostalgia, then King’s Drive Inn at 1650 Cornhusker Highway is the place to go From the old-fashioned cash register to the waitresses’ uni- j forms, the restaurant has a I950’s atmosphere As I opened the door, the first thing I noticed was the black and w hite checkered floor, and then 1 looked up and saw a sign on the kitchen wall that said “No Profanity, Except by the Cook.” Even if you come in by yourself you won't by dining alone, for James Dean, Paul Newman, and other legends are on the walls looking upon customers. Customers are seated at Shirley Ryan, a King’s employee for 10years,selectsthreetunesforaquarterfromtheSeebiirgjuke box. j booths with hard top tables and worn vinyl seats where they can hear tunes such as “Johnny Re mrnmmmtmmmmmGood" COITling from the juke box. For the most part, die estab lishment is clean but be sure to ’ wear shoes unless you want a squished tomato between your toes. Watch out for the mustard too! Most of the menu consists of items such as hamburgers and cheeseburgers, along with chili and malts. I ordered the cheese burger platter which comes with lettuce and curly-Q french fries.
