year-old Sherrill, a bass-baritone
won Sunday’s local Mctropolita
Opera National Council auditions.
About 200 people attended th
auditions at the Sheldon Mcmoris
Art Gallery Sunday.

I closed my eyes, waiting for Tif
fany to pull the trigger and end my
young life.
My mind Hashed back to last
spring when 1 created the Tiffany
qui/ for our readers. I had expected a
Hood of responses to the qui/ that
would prove to Tiffany that she was a
loved and respected musician among
the campus community. Unfortu
nately, only four people bothered to
take the quiz and mail it in.
Tiffany was devastated and she
blamed me for the quiz’s failure. She
left me in tears and, since then, I had
been trying to put heroutof my mind.
“T-T-Tiflany,” I stammered. “I
irieu .. .
“Save it, worm,” she said, press
ing the gun barrel against my fore
head. “1 don’t want to hear your
pitiful excuses. I just want you to
rectify your wrongs.’
“Make another quiz,” she said.
“There is a new Tiffany now. I have
a new album, a new voice and 1 am a
legal adult in charge of my own ca
reer. I want everyone to know it.
Make a new quiz for DN readers or
feel the pain of hot lead scaring
through your brain.”
“But Tiffany,” I objected. “My
editors and our readers will think I’m
an uncrcative moron who has to fall
back on stale ideas that weren’t that
funny to begin with.”
“So,” she said. “What’s new?”
She then noticed my Walkman.
“Jim, I hope you’re listening to
my new album on your headphones. ’ ’
“Uh.no,” I mumbled,certainlhal
my life would soon be over. “It's
Debbie Gibson.”
In the wink of an eye, she ripped
the Walkman from my hip, threw it
into the air and blew it to pieces w ith
one quick shot. She moved the lip ol
the hot barrel to her lips and blew the
away the smoke, just like in the
movies.
I gulped audibly. She grinned
audibly. I realized I wasal her mercy.
Not caring to feel hoi lead in my
brain, I agreed to write a new quiz.
