Bus shelter bill to be studied By Chris Carroll Staff Reporter The need for an additional bus shelter on city campus and east campus, will be studied by the Cam pus Life Committee if a bill directing the committee to do so is passed by the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska Wednesday night, said AS UN President Jeff Pe tersen. Petersen said students have indi cated that a shelter is needed at Lyman Hall, where students on city campus make a connection to east campus, and also near the Barkley Memorial Center in the southeast comer of east campus. The proposed test file was previously discussed by senators. The senate also will consider delegating the Campus Life Com mittee to look at the advantages.and disadvantages of conducting Resi dence Hall Association elections in conjunction with ASUN elections. Petersen said RH A elects senators and a president to represent the inter ests of the residence halls. Residents in the halls would be the only indi viduals voting on RHA offices, Pe tersen said. He said ASUN can suggest what to do regarding a joint election, but the electoral commission will make the final decision. Campus recreation construction progressing I By David Holloway Senior Reporter The second of three phases in the construction of the new Campus Recreation Athletic Facility is 60 percent finished, said Del Busackcr, construction engineer at the Univer sity of Nebraska-Lincoln. Busackcr said the second phase consists of a weight room facility, an all-purpose room and several offices on the first level. He said volleyball couils and a suspended truck also arc included in Phase Two. ‘The existing bas ketball floor of the Coliseum has been refinished and is nowin use.' - Busacker Work is now being done on three levels of handball courts in the stage house, Busackcr said. Five courts will be on each level. “The existing basketball fltxir of the Coliseum has been refinished and is now in use,” Busackcr said. “We have also added two new tennis courts and sports fields which were part of the second phase.” Bob Carpenter, architect for plan ning and design, said Phase IA was the Cook Pavilion which was dedi cated last tall. “We arc now working on Phases IB and Two,” Carpenter said. “Phase Three will be the remodeling of the Coliseum itself.” Carpenter said the budget for the center has been “right on target.” He said the proposal for the third Rhasc soon will be presented to the III Board of Regents for approval. Phase IB and Two arc expected to be completed some time in June, Busackcr said. Facilities in the Coliseum and the Cook Pavilion are now open for stu dent use, Carpenter said.
