Dance faculty caters variety DANCE From Page 5 pieces for the upcoming perform ance of “Gendcralities.” "Gendcralities,” a program in which performers will lake an in depth look at gender myths, is one of many opportunities students involved in the department will have to perform throughout the year, Milan said. Other opportunities for per formances include working with the Lincoln City Ballet Company and Ballet Midwest, two Lincoln based ballet companies affiliated with UNL, and Orchesis, a group of students who are interested in dance and perform shows yearly. Milan said she finds peoples’ notions that dance is easy and sepa rate from academics “very frustrat ing." Trade Houser, a 21-year-old junior dance major from Ontario, Canada, shares Milan’s views. “You can’t be a good dancer without a functioning brain,” Houser said. “Maybe book-related homework is more ‘heavy,’ but we pul in as many hours as anyone." “Genderalities," Milan said, is “a special event intended to introduce people to modern dance, and show them how ridiculous gender myths are.” Titles of pieces to be per formed during the show will give people a hint of their content, she said. As examples, she mentioned “Cocktails," a piece that will be performed by jnen in the theater department, and “Women in White” and “Fragile Facade,” both of which to be performed by women in the dance department. The program will be performed Nov. 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. in the Studio Theater on the third floor of the Temple building on 12th and R streets.
