Autumn fun in Nebraska fills calendar By Kelly Anders Staff Reporter Last weekend it was the Harvest Day Celebration in Lincoln. This weekend it’s “La Vitsef," a city-wide parade and dance in Norfolk When will all the autumn fun end? Not for a long, long time. On September 21-25 in Omaha, River City Round-up will be held at Ak-sar-ben and the Central Park Mall. There’ll be a parade, games, a rodeo and a chili cook-ofT. The 5th . Annual German Festival is also scheduled late in the month in downtown Syracuse. There’ll be music, folk dancing, soccer and crafts. October 1-2, the Country Music Festival will take place in Fremont at the Christensen Field Parks and Recreation Department Audito rium. October 17-22 there’ll be another Country7 Music Festival in Hastings at the Fairgrounds. The Brown vine rail Festival is scheduled, but no date has been set. At the end of the month, on Oct. 27, the Updowntowners will host" 1 lalloween in the Haymarket” at the Candy Factory on 8th and P streets. The Omaha Autumn Festival is scheduled for Nov. 4 - 6 at the Civic Auditorium. Artists will show works with autumn themes. Also early in the month, date as yet unannounced, people will gather for the River-Front Marathon and Ten-Kilometer Scenic Race in Omaha. Races provide excitement, loss of money HORSES from Page 12 crazed man al a craps table, I contin ued. Bad luck really struck in the third race — I won. That was the worst thing that could happen to a novice like myself It was a $3 return on a $2 ticket for a horse called Punkin Tuner. 1 must have gotten cocky. I did not win again the rest of the night. I placed bets in the next five races and lost in them all. It’s really not that bad because 1 had auite a lot of extra money smoldering in my pocketand $27 is not all thatbad. I did not have to sell my car or hock my watch. Besides, I don’t suppose I’ll be going to the races again really soon anyway. I’ll just have to log this one in the big or book of experience and move along in my life. But heck! I had a good time. And that’s what horse racing is for most Lincolnites: a good time As autumn chums along and the nights become nippier, you might want to slip on down to State Fair Park and test your equine savvy. You may have better luck than I did and perhaps you’ll come home with a few extra bucks. I bet you’ll also have a good time. But don’t base your bet on the bright orange silks — they lost me money all night.
