Coiiee House
lightens mood
in new show
1‘iom Suff Report*
A new show will be opening at The
Coffee House on Monday.
According to Rob Benton, curator
and employee of The Coffee House,
at 1324 F St., the show will consist of
illustrations, drawings and mixed
media works in the front of the store,
and art created by children in the
back.
Benton said he has planned this
show to lighten up the mood of The
Coffee House's role as an art gallery
and provide a more low-key atmos
phere. He said he wanted to present a
more graphic show of works more in
the tradition of commercial art.
All of the show’s artists will be
honored at a reception from 5:30 to
7:30p.m. Monday. The show will run

Lentz Center to exhibit
traditional Asian artworks
From Staff Reports
“Paintings By Li Shan, from
Lincoln Collectors,” the Don and
Velma Lentz Center for Asian
Culture’s 7th changing exhibit, is
showing at the University of Ne
braska State Museum.
The collection displays two
recognized styles of traditional
Chinese paintings: Gong Bi, realis
tic paintings with elements of fine
brushwork and attention to detail;
and Xie Yi, freehand brushwork.
The Lentz, at 304 Morrill Hall,
will show a new exhibit, “Tababaia
Soshi,” a reprint of a 400-year-old
manuscript. The manuscript is
considered a Japanese “national
treasure”.
The Lentz Center will be show
ing the Li Shan paintings until later
this fall, when the Lentz Center
will be temporarily closed for less
than three months because the
museum’s air-conditioning and
dehum idifier system will be over
hauled.
“Tababata Soshi” will be dis
played at the Lentz Center until the
completion of the Lied Center,
where it will be displayed later.
