When I asked people what bar I
should check out while in western
Nebraska, all of them mentioned
Ole’s Big Game Lounge in Paxton.
The lounge is rich with the past,
yet continues with plans for the
future. Rosser O. Herstcdt - Ole -
opened thebar at 12:01 am., Aug. 9,
1933, and was the first to serve beer
in Nebraska after prohibition was
repealed.
The bar is filled with relics of
Ole’s hobby - big game hunting.
When we walked into the bar, we
were greeted by a polar bear in a
glass cage. He’s in a ferocious
stance on a mound of snow. Every
where 1 looked, there was a pair of
eyes staring back at me, it was kind
