NU recruit hoping to change her luck
By Mike Kluck

Three losses at the Bob Dcvaney
Sports Center has given Sarah Muller
some unpleasant memories of the
But, Muller
hopes, those
memories will
turn around
next season
when she
plays for the
Nebraska bas
ketball team.
As a junior,
Muller played
for the Scribner team which lost in the
1987 state championship game to
Osceola. As a senior, Muller played
for Fremont Bergan, but again lost in
the state championship to Gibbon.
Two week’s ago, Muller’s North All
Star team lost to the South 69-63.
Muller’s only victory so far at the
sports center was in the second round
of the 1988 State Tournament when
Bergan defeated Hebron. But, Muller
said, they had to win the game be
cause it was on her birthday.
‘She can run,
shoot, and pass the
ball. She is able to
put some points on
the board and even
block some shots.’

Although Mulier hasn’t had much
success at the sports center, it didn’t
stop Nebraska women’s basketball
coach Angela Beck from offering her
a scholarship.
“She is a well-rounded athlete,”
Beck said. ‘‘She can run, shoot and
pass the ball. She is able to put some
'i
points on the board and even block
some shots. She also has passing abil
ity.”
Muller finished her high school
career with 1,707 points, which is the
3rd highest total in state history.
Muller was disappointed with the
all-star game. She said she was upset
her team lost and that she didn’t get to
play more in the game.
Muller said she played 17 minutes
in the 40 minute game. She scored
seven points, sinking 3 of 9 shots from
the field and 1 of 4 from the free
throw line. She also pulled down 10
rebounds and blocked one shot
Muller said her attention has now
turned to playing basketball for the
Comhuskers.
“I expect to contribute some this
year and next, but hopefully earn a
starting position my junior year,”
Muller said. "I know I won’t play
much at the beginning of the year, but
I hope to increase my playing time
throughout the year.”
Beck said it is difficult to predict
how much playing time Muller will
have but said if things go right she
could contribute a lot her first year.
“If we get her in collegiate shape
she could be a real fine specimen,”
Beck said. ‘There are many factors
that play into how much she plays. If
she adapts and does the things we
want her to do she could be utilized
right away. (It) also depends if she
comes in here with a good work
ethic.”
