The Houston Rockets picked Der
rick Chievous with the No. 16 pick in
the draft. Chievous could develop
into a very good player but he lacks
motivation at times.
The Los Angeles Lakers probably
made one of the worst picks in the first
round by picking Notre Dame’s
David Rivers, a 5-foot-11 point guard
who averaged 22 points per game.
Rivers forces too many shots and
won’t fit in too well with the Lakers,
whose starters all want to average
more than 30 points a game.
Another questionable pick w as the
New York Knicks selecting Rod
Strickland of DePaul. Strickland,
mainly a point guard, will most likely
ride the pines playing behind NBA
Rookie of the Year Mark Jackson.

Endicott looks to nationals
By Mark Derowitsch
Senior Reporter
After competing with the United
Slates National “B” team, Nebraska
volleyball player Lori Endicott is
trying to forget about international
competition.
Endicott, who trained with the “B”
team for IK days at the National
Training Center in San Diego, Calif.,
said she’s not worrying about her spot
on the 1992 Olympic team.
“Right now, all I’m thinking about
iswinninganationalchampionshipat
Nebraska,” Endicott said. “The idea
of winning the championship is all
I’m thinking about until nationals are
over.”
The purpose of the “B” team is to
give the national coaches a chance to
look at prospective players for the
1992 Olympic games, Endicott said.
Endicott said the “B” team has
been dissolved and the coaches for the
National team should contact players
in October. Tryouts for that team will
be held in January.
“I think the camp was great be
cause I had a lot of good training
there,” Endicott said. “1 received a lot
of individual attention which should
really help me during the season.”
Endicott said the Comhuskers
have a good chance to make a run for
the national title this year. Nebraska
has won 12 consecutive regular sea
son Big Eight championships and
have made six consecutive NCAA
tournament appearances.
“I think this year’s team will have
a lot of talent,” she said. “We arc all
dedicated to the team and we will do
whatever it takes to win.”
During the training camp, Endi
cott said she did what she had to do
and led the U.S. team to a win over
West Germany’s national team.
“My role (at the camp) was to
come in and spark the team/’Endicott
said. “Thecoaches wanted me to give
the team some emotion and motiva
tion. But after the win over West
Germany, my role changed.”
Endicott was a back-up setter
behind Wendy Rush of Stanford, but
with the U.S. team trailing 12-3 in the
first set against the West Germans,
Endicott replaced Rush. She brought
the U.S. team back as it won the set,
18-16. Endicott stayed in the match as
the “B” team won the next two sets,
15-11,15-10, to win the match.
“Ididn’tdoanythingdifferentthan
1 do at Nebraska,” Endicott said. “1
just really worked hard.”
