M I... .. , Six elected to By David Holloway Staff Reporter Six University of Nebraska-Lincoln 4-H members, recently elected as national officers, are hoping to increase club membership nation ally. Delegates from 37 other clubs throughout the United States elected the slate of UNL candidates last Sunday at the national confer ence of the National Collegiate 4-H Organiza tion. Newly elected president Steve Nelson, a mechanized agricultural senior, said he and other candidates gave a presentation at the conference explaining their goals and aspira tions for the club. Don Sittering, adviser to u nl s 4-h cnap ler, said that as president of the National Colle giate 4-H Organization, Nelson will be respon sible for giving administrative leadership to more than 50 different clubs on campuses across the country and coordinating regional activities. Nelson said the new officers will revise the 4-H organization on the national level. He said he hopes to collaborate more with the national adviser, Steve Mullen, who works with thcU.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., to start the changes.^ Some of Nelson’s goals for the future of 4 H are to gain more emphasis on its national service project, which is child-abuse proven 4-H offices tion, and more publicity locally and nationally | of the organizations. Nelson also plans to de velop an alumni group for the organization. The Lincoln chapter of 4-H will attend the national conference next fall in Washington, D.C., and the national congress in Chicago in November, Nelson said. The club will sponsor workshops dealing with leadership and public ity of the 4-H organization at the convention. Siffering said the new officers will be re- ' sponsible for planning the 15th annual national I convention, which will be in Washington, I D.C., the first time in April 1989. He said the i first National Collegiate 4-H Conference was in Nebraska in 1973. Siffering said Nebraska presented a slate of 1 officers at the conference evaluation and plan- i ning session in October at Brookings, S.D. The 1 slate was approved at the session and then presented for election at the national confer ence in Brookings last Thursday through Satur- i day, he said. j UNL 4-H members elected at the confer ence were Nelson; Business Manager Darin j Hubbard, junior electrical engineering major, 1 Secretary Robm Sawyer, junior English and . speech communication major; Publicity Direc tor Milch Mason, freshman agricultural eco- . nomics major; and Steering Committee Coor dinator Loren Isom, sophomore agriculture business major.
