Nighthawks continue tour at Zoo Bar
By Ken Havlat
Staff Reporter
This week’s Zoo Bar schedule is
highlighted by veteran blues bar
band The Nighthawks tonight and
Tony Trischka and Skyline
Wednesday.
The Nighthawks are on their first
national tour since reforming. For
mer Wet Willie vocalist Jimmy Hall
picks up the slack left by the depar
ture of James Thackery. Also added
at the same time was Jimmy Nalls on
guitar.
The Nighthawks have been a
blues institution almost since their
formation in 1973. Mark Wenner’s
supreme artistry on harmonica
‘Skyline is consid
ered a strong
fore ce in proges
sive acoustic mu
sic today.'
complements the definitively solid
rhythm section of drummer Pete
Ragusa and bassist Jan Zukowski.
Recently the Nighthawks re
leased a “Live In Europe” album on
Varrick/Rounder Records, show
casing them at their live best.
Skyline’s last show at the Zoo
was supposed to be its last, but a
change of heart among the band
members has kept the group to
gether so far.
Skyline is considered a strong
force in progressive acoustic music
today. The folk movement is bloom
ing at a point unseen since the early
1960s, and Trischka’s banjo playing
will help you understand why.
Cover is $6 for the Nighthawks
and $5 for Skyline. Both shows
begin about 9:30 p.m.
