season’s 5.70.
Joel Sealer, a senior left-hander
from Omaha, was particularly im
pressive, Pratt said. Sealer earned his
first victory of the season in Sunday’s
12-1 win by going four innings and
allowing one run on three hits. He
struck out four baiters.
Sealer pitched only six innings
last season before pulling a muscle in
his left arm against Wichita State.
“We were really happy w ith Joel,”
Pratt said. “He threw really hard. It
looks like he will be an impressive
pitcher for us down the road.”
Pratt said the weekend wins
helped Nebraska prepare for the rest
of the season.
“We got a chance to play every
body and throw everybody,” he said.
“We’re seeing some good things and
we’re happy, but we also know we
have to improve.”
Nebraska coach John Sanders left
Fort Collins after Sunday’s games for
Southern California to play in a bene
fit golf tournament for the late Otto
Baumann. Baumann was one of the
primary donators to the Nebraska
baseball program before his death
recently. The Baumann Baseball
Building, which sits next to Buck
Belt/cr Field, was dedicated to him
in 1984.

Huskers turn Norman into ‘Our house’

Winning at the Lloyd Noble
Center has not been easy for the
Nebraska men’s gymnastics team.
But on Sunday, the Comhuskers
broke a three-meet losing streak in
Norman, Okla., by scoring a season
high 286.75 to defeat Oklahoma and
Iowa State, which finished with
284.5 and 265.4 points.
Nebraska assistant gymnastics
coach Jim Howard said the Huskers
did well in 83 percent of their rou
tines. He said that figure is what the
Huskers need to accomplish consis
tently if they are going to win the
NCAA Championship April 14-16
in Lincoln.
Howard said Nebraska needed to
set a season high because the Husk
ers were doubting themselves after
dropping a 279-276.1 decision to
Minnesota earlier this season. He
said the point total proves Nebraska
is a legitimate contender for this
year’s national championship.
Howard said he knew Sunday’s
meet was going to be a high-scoring
one after Nebraska completed its
first rotation on the pommel horse
with a score of 47.65. That total
placed the Huskers half a point
ahead of Oklahoma, which totaled
47.6 on the floor exercise.
Howard said having a higher
score on the pommel horse than on
the floor exercise is unusual for the
Huskers.
“We knew we were going to be
hot when we scored higher on
pommel horse then Oklahoma did
on floor exercise,” Howard said.
“It’s really hard to do that because
pommel horse is such a hard event,
but we did and it got us started on the
right foot.”

Howard said Nebraska’s per
formance was aided by senior Kevin
Davis, who competed in five of six
events and had his best meet of the
season. Davis, a senior from
Lithonia, Ga., captured three indi
vidual titles with scores of 9.9 on the
high bar, 9.8 on the pommel horse
and 9.75 on the parallel bars, and
finished third in the still rings with a
9.7.
Howard said Davis would have
competed in all six events in the all
around, but he reinjured his right
ankle in the floor exercise.
Nebraska sophomore Patrick
Kirkscy finished second in the all
around with a 57.05, and Huskcr
freshman Ted Dimas scored a per
sonal best in the floor exercise w'ith
a score of 9.8.
