"We probably won’t become overly rich doing it, though.” Hckakontalithos has played ai the Malone Civic Center several times since it formed six months ago. The crowd consists of mostly high school punks, which discour ages the band. “We like the punks that come to the shows, but we’d like to sec more of our type of crowd,” Kohl said. “There are plenty of people in this city that listen to Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer. That’s what we’re all about.” But this band is not a copy of some big-name speed metal band. They have the same ideas, but their sound and vocals do not ring a bell. They arc definitely Hckakontal ilhos. Kohl is ihc sinister force of the band. He never stops talking, never stops jamming. He walks around bobbing his head up and down to an invisible thrash tune. “Nobody knows what a ‘Hckakontalilhos’ is,” he said. “Well, it’s a heavy stone used for occult rituals and demonic offer ings. How about that?” Debus is quieter than Kohl, less domineering. He smiles more. But when it comes to the band, he means business. “Metal is thccutting edge of balls and heaviness,’’Debussaid.“We’ve got to keep pushing it.” Stu Hall has hope for the people of Lincoln, even if it is for his own benefit. He has his own opinions about what is going on in the city of Lincoln. “I’d like to sec the birth of a more metal crowd,” he said, playing with a piece of broken glass. “They’ve got to be tired of the type of bands Mark Davis/Daily Nebraskan Kohl making up the feeble music scene right now.” Whether the people of Lincoln are tired of current bands is ques tionable, but this band is ready to step in and kill. They sing of death, destruction, graves, necrophiliacs and all kinds of cheerful things. They don't like other bands, and they probably won’t like you. But one thing is for sure: Even if you think you’re a seasoned head banger, take precautions the first time you listen to Hekakontalilhos. Strap yourself down. Otherwise, nobody will ever find you.
