Hekakontalithos ready to conquer town

Madness rides the star wind
— “The Hound” by Hekakon
talithos, based on the short story by
H.P. Love craft
Somewhere deep in the heart of
Lincoln, something evil lurks.
Something powerful, something
deadly. Strange noises can be traced
to a house, down some stairs and
into a dark basement. This is where
a band practices, but it is not a usual
Lincoln band.
It is Hekakontalithos. And these
guys are for real, a fact that will
scare almost anybody.
“If your idea of punk is some
paisley-covered R.E.M. clone or
your idea of metal is dressing like
your favorite Motley Crue stud,
Hekakontalithos will teach you a
thing or two about true rock ‘n ‘roll
rebellion,” said vocalist, bass player
and chief songwriter Jeff Kohl, set
ting down a beer.
“We want to play as fast and
mean and heavy as possible. That’s
all there is to it,” Kohl said.
Along with drummer Stu Hall
and guitarist Jason Debus, Kohl
succeeds fairly well in creating a
mayhem that any “real metalhcad,”
as he so aptly puts it, would die for.
The music is fast, frenzied and psy
chotic. Kohl's tyrannic vocals and
winding bass lines collide with the
crashing drums of Hall and de
ranged whinings of Debus on guitar
