NU women gymnasts fall to Buckeyes By Lori Griffin Staff Reporter The balance beam and the uneven bars proved to be the downfalls for the Nebraska women’s gymnastics team during its 183.5-182.65 loss to Ohio State Friday night at the Bob Dcvancy Sports Center. Nebraska women’s gymnastics coach Rick Walton said he was sur prised that Nebraska was defeated by only one point, because four Corn huskers fell during their routines on the balance beam and uneven bars. “When you have four or five girls fall off bars and beam, it’s amazing we came within a point of them,” Walton said. “Bars and beam are the two events that make or break a team, and we didn’t do well on cither one.” Walton was disappointed with the meet’s outcome because Nebraska had battled Georgia, the defending national champions, to within two tenths of a point earlier this season. “We just weren’t very good, and I don t know the reason,” Walton said. “The girls were flat. I don’t think it was a letdown after pressing Georgia so closely, but I do think they took some things for granted in practice during the past week. “It showed in their performance.” Ohio State women’s gymnastics coach Larry Cox waspleased with his araicsniinHisKiHnHHBi team’s performance. He said the Buckeyes were able to overcome a shaky performance on the balance beam en route to the victory. “This is the first meet that we have put all of the events together,” Cox said. “Beam is usually one of our better events, but we missed on that tonight. It came down to us blowing one event while Nebraska messed up two.” Ohio State’s Monica Stavros was the lone individual winner for the Buckeyes. Stavros won the all around competition with a 37.5 score while capturing first-place finishes in the vault and balance beam. Nebraska will prepare for its dual meet against Penn Slate tonight by watching videotapes, Walton said. “We’ve got a lot of video of this meet against Ohio State,” Walton said. “We’ll sec what happened, try to fix it and be back on Monday.” FOR SALE 3 Sting Tickets, 8th row center main floor.
