Packers not interested in NIPs McBride
By Mark Derowitsch
Senior Reporter__
An official representing the Green
Bay Packers denied Wednesday that
Nebraska defensive coordinator
Charlie McBride has been offered a
job with the National Football
League team.
Tom Braatz, director of football
operations for Green Bay, said the
Packers aren’t worrying about hiring
assistant coaches until a new coach is
found. Forest Gregg, who was Green
Bay’s coach for four years, resigned
last month after accepting a similar
job at Southern Methodist Univer
sity.
It would be a very awkward situ
ation for us to hire an assistant coach
since we don’t have a coach,” Braatz
said, “so it is strictly a rumor.”
Braatz said McBride, who joined
the Nebraska staff 11 years ago after
coaching at Wisconsin and Arizona
State, was never contacted by Green
Bay. He also said the Packers would
need permission to talk with
McBride before contacting him.
“First, we would call (Nebraska
coach) Tom Osborne and ask him if
we could talk to his assistant,” Braatz
said. “We have not done that, and I
see no reason for it, because we don’t
have a coach.”
Braatz said Green Bay is in the
process of looking for a coach.
Michigan State football coach
George Pcrlcs was offered the job last
month but turned it down.
McBride spent six years at Wis
consin before joining Osborne’s
staff. He served as an assistant coach
to Frank Kush at Arizona State before
that.
McBride also played one year
with the Denver Broncos of the now
defunct American Football League
after earning all-Big Eight honors as
an end and punter at Colorado.
After playing for Denver,
McB ride spent one year as a graduate
assistant coach at Colorado and then
became coach at Fenger High School
in Chicago.
McBride was unavailable for
comment.

Tom,
When we met a year ago today, you delighted me with
your humor, your openness, your consideration and
some ve’y entertaining stories. I soon found you to be
understanding, gentle, intelligent, honest, romantic,
sincere, patient, generous, responsible, sensual, caring,
independent, sexy, tolerant, loving and lovable. Very
lovable Thank you for a year of shared laughter, of
quickened breath, of hugs and kisses. I lover you.
