The show will then move to Omaha’s Civic Audito rium Friday through Sunday. Big Bird and his pals arc always ready to welcome newcomers to their neighborhood, but this time the new kid on the block is like no one they’ve ever met before. They could say she’s different or unusual, but the best de scription is out-of this-world. Her name is Tec Hcc, and she’s a lovable alien from the planet Crayon. When she finds her way to Sesame Street, the stage is set for non-stop singing, danc ing and fun-filled entertainment. But, alas, there’s a challenge fac ing the residents of 123 Sesame Street. Tec Hec doesn’t communicate the way they do. She’s never even heard of thealnhahct It’s nn in iht* Mnnnok to lend their extra-terrestrial friend a hand, or paw, and bridge their com munication gap with a lively lesson about the ABCs. This heart-warming learning expe rience starring Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Grover, Prairie Dawn, Oscar the Grouch, the Count and Cookie Mon ster sparkles with upbeat numbers leaturing Sesame favorites like, “C is for Cookie,” “AB-C-DEF-GHI,” The People in Your Neighborhood” and “Sing.” A collection of new tunes including “Come on and Count,” The Laughter Song” and “Grover Rap” rounds out the musical score. Sesame Street Live is now in its eighth season and is produced by the Children’s Television Workshop. Newsline 472-1763 Violent Femmes’ Ritchie promoting album By Ken Havlat Staffjtcportcr Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes has embarked on a nation wide tour in supportof his first solo album, “The Blend,” on SST Rec ords. Ritchie and his band will perform Tuesday night at the Ranch Bowl, 1600 S. 72nd St. in Omaha. “We (the band members) de cided to take a hiatus from the Femmes. We felt we had reached an impasse,” Ritchie said. “I de cided to free-lance and do my own thing.” Touring with Ritchie are Chris Loss on drums, John Kruth on mandolin and Cynthia Bartcll (ex Tete Noire) on bass. “We arc trying to explore differ ent musical regions,” Ritchie said. “The Blend’ is more of a serious project then the music of the Femmes.” “The Femmes live to be goofy, cute and to perform live where we could display our showmanship, and it made for good perform ances, better than our albums,” Ritchie said. “None of us have a personal ax to grind against one another,” he I said. “We look forward to getting back together in a couple of months. Maybe it’ll suck, but we’ll see.” The Femmes recorded and r worked together for five years before taking a hiatus last year. Ritchie helped produce the Tete Noire album on Rounder that came out last year. Ritchie also has played with Sigmund Snopek, a seminal percussionist (who has performed with the Femmes), on his solo record on Dali Records, and Eugene Chadboumc on his “Horses on Foreign Wars” LP. “The Blend” isadifficultalbum to describe. “No Nuclear War” is a song the Femmes have done live. It is a very guitar-oriented album, yet contains a Far Eastern approach to the music that can be very satisfy ing. Ritchie has done much to explore those exotic realms the Femmes have just touched upon. It is fascinating to contrast the songs Alphabet” and “Two Fat Dogs.” These are minimalistic in approach, compared to side two, which features the whole ensemble and takes away from it the idea of a solo project by a man who is a member of a popular band. Opening will be Blind Idiot God, a four-piece instrumental' group from New York. They arc reminiscent of SST stablemates Lawndale and Gone in that they require you to pay attention to the music’s details. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free with tickets ob tained in advance at the Ranch Bowl or $2 at the door.
