The Howell Theater, 12th and R streets, will kick off the season with “A Christmas Carol.” Pat Overton of the Howell Theater said that this year’s version will have a lighter and happier mood. The theater has produced the play every other year since 1979. Overton said this is the first year the theater will have “Mrs. Cralchit’s Cupboard” — a pantry to which audience members can contribute non-perishable foods for holiday distribution by the Food Bank of Lincoln. “A Christmas Carol” will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12. The theater will hold shows nightly at 8 p.m. and matinees Saturdays at 3 p.m. Tickets will cost $6 for UNL students and $8 for the general public. The Lincoln Community Play house, 2500 S. 56 St., will present “The Lion in Winter,” a comic drama from classical literature. The play will run Dec. 3-6, 10-13 and 17-20. Showlimes will be at 8 p.m. and on the first and third Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Ticket prices for Thursday performances will be $8 for people 18 and older and $4 for others. Tickets for the Friday through Sunday performances will be SI0 for adults and $5 for those 17 and under. UPC Dances and Comstock will sponser a Christmas Dance Dec. 3 at the East Campus Union that features The Confidential. Ticket prices are $2 for students and $3 for non-stu dents. Quickly becoming a Lincoln tra dition, the Third Annual Star City Holiday Parade Weekend will be Dec. 4-6. the celebration will begin at the Folsom Children’s Zoo. There will be an informal fashion show by Ben Simon’s and a dinner at the Hilton Hotel Grand Ballroom at 6 p.m. Buses will be charted to the zoo at 8 p.m. for dessert and Santa Claus. Tickets for the event will be $15 for adults and $7.50 for children. The zoo will be open all weekend from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Mayor Bill Harris will turn on the lights in the Haymarket during the lighting cere mony. At 8 p.m. Friday and Satur day night, the Comhuskcr Marching band will perform at Kimball Hall. Tickets have been on sale, S5 for adults and $3 for college students, high school students and senior citizens. The main attraction of the weekend will be the Star City Parade Saturday at 11 a.m. The parade will run the length of “O” Street. Before and after the parade, the Paul Mesncr Puppets will perform in Miller and Paine’s third floor auditorium.
