D'Aquino in movie shot locally FILM from Page 7 D’Aquino also appeared in this season’s first episode of “Magnum P.I.” as a basketball coach. His most his most recognizable role to date was in this summer’s release “No Way Out” as Kevin Costner’s marine buddy. “My character in “Bom to Lose” is about 25, 26, from an economically depressed area. That’s the back his tory I’ve created to play him,” he said. He said it is more difficult to play youth. “They’re always with you, even if they don’t understand, they’re look ing you in the eye and nodding, “Uh huh ... right,” he said. “This role doesn’t have all the colors I would like, but it’s not in the character,” he said. “On page 15 of the script, my younger brother is mur dered, I have no parents and the police aren’t cooperating. I’m not a happy guy!” “Through the course of action, my old buddies that I recruit to help me (Ruginis and Sherrill) can be loose, I have to remain focused,” he said. D’Aquino said shooting this film has been rough. “It’s very low budget which means twice the pace and half the crew and time,” he said. His eyes strayed to where the actress playing the tour guide was being shot for a close-up under the rhino display. “That actress is not in a vacuum. She needs fellow actors around to help her focus on and feel the part. True pros support each other,” he said. “I auditioned for this part. The trick is to be able to audition. Luckily I’ve got a good agent. I’ve been told a lot of times that I’m too ethnic,” he said. D’Aquino’s father is from Italy and his mother is a first generation Italian. “I’m at the part of my career that I have to be picky, even if it means giving up a guaranteed job,” he said. “I chose ‘Bom to Lose’ over the lead in a female ‘Rambo’ thing shot in the Philippines and paying three times the money!” D’Aquino said his ultimate goal is to come to a point where the scripts are sent to him. “When I was filming ‘No Way Out’ with Kevin Costner, he had the problem of choosing between eight movie offers — each one dependant on him, they were just waiting for him to say ‘go,’” D’Aquino said. “Costner’s to the point where he makes decisions based on his family and personal preference.” “I have to go for the leads,” he said. “If I took a supporting role, it would be a step down.” He said he turned down a recurring role on “Magnum” for that reason. “I don’t see television as a step down. If the role is good and I like it, I’ll do it, but it needs to be a lead,” he said. “That’s where I am as an actor right now.” “People want to love you,” D’Aquino said. “It’s our job as actors to be self-reflective and look at who we are.” Shooting for the film ended Tues day night when actors, production people and crew packed their equip ment and headed back to Fremont, where most of the film is being done.
