A survey of 40 students at the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln revealed that 48 per
cent were in favor of the Nebraska athletic
department's decision to modify Herbie
Husker — the school’s mascot.
The survey, which was conducted at
various points throughout the UNL campus,
also found that 45 percent of the students
disapproved of the change.
Three of the 40 people surveyed had no
opinion.
The survey’s results will change in the
future because more Comhu'ker fans will
accept the new mascot, said Gary Fouraker.
Nebraska athletic department manager and
member of the committee that decided to
modify the mascot.
"The South Carolina game ton Oct. 3)
was the first time with the new mascot,”
Fouraker said. "Over time. 1 feel it will be
more accepted.”
Fouraker said the Nebraska athletic de
partment decided to spend S1.000 to modify
Herbie Husker because people complained
about the old mascot.
‘ We were receiving a number ot com
plaints from people about the old one, plus
a number of our alumni didn't like it.”
Fouraker said. “Also, the old head was tall
mg apart.”
Fouraker said that the committee looked
at whether Nebraska should have a mascot
and what kind of mascot should be used.
