Davis copies McBride's technique DAVIS from Page 12 career with the now-defunct United Suites Football League's Boston Breakers. Davis started a roofing business alter retiring from football. He then became the offensive coordinator at Brandon High School in Brandon, Fla., the largest high school in the United States at that time. He arrived at Nebraska during the fall of 1986. Davis, who is working on his master’s degree in physical education, said he has en joyed his coaching career at Nebraska so lar. He said he particularly enjoys watching his defensive linemen learn Nebraska’s de fensive techniques. “I like watching kids improve over time,” he said. ‘Over time, and after repetition after repetition after repetition, you start seeing results — just small things that combine to make the whole picture. Then, to sec the look in their eyes wb n itall comes together, that's fun. “That’s what it’s all about.” Davis said his main objective is to pre pare his defensive linemen for varsity foot ball. “1 want them to be able to step in this spring and have the adjustment be not so severe, to where »he players can handle it,” Davis said. “My coaching technique is ex actly what (varsity defensive coordinator) coach (Charlie) McBride teaches. I want them to know what he expects of them." Bell benefits from Huskers weightlifting BELL from Page 6 Bell has hail to wait his turn because the Huskers had two-year letter winners Dana Brinson, Hendlcy Hawkins and Von Sheppard returning this year. However, Sheppard suffered a career-ending injury against South C arolina, and Bell became the third string wingback. “We re so talented at that position that he hasn't played a lot,” Brown said. But he has been very efficient with the time he has gotten. He will be playing a lot more.” Brown said Nebraska has used the run-and-shoot offensive formation more this year because the Huskers have so many good wingbacks. “We wanted to get all of our talent out on the field,” Brown said. Bell said it is unusual that he has played so much because he is the third wingback. He said he has been happy with his play “for the most part.” “I’ve worked hard and I’m getting it done,” Bell said. “How ever, there’s always room for improvement.” Bell said it isn't tough for him to get up for a game with a team like Kansas State because, “I treat every game the same.” “I just go out there on the field and try to get every play done right, just like practice,” Bell said. “It’s not tough to get psyched for a game when you’re playing in front of 76.000 fans.” Bell redshirted in 1986, and he said that year helped him mentally. “However, I'd rather have been out there playing,” Bell said. “Flaying against the No. 3 or 4 defense in the nation helps out, though.” MERCURY MORRIS “A Personal View on Drug Abuse” Former running back for the two-time world champion Miami Dolphins r--1 Thursday, Nov. 5 City Union Ballroom 7:30 PM Free Admission With Student 1.1). $2 for Non-Students t 33333 3 week y v CHARTROOSE CAr JOSE FAMOUS STEAK SANDWICHES V / NEW LOCATION • NEW OWNERSHIP ★ 1 GAME DAY SPECIAL]★ EAT IN OR CARRY >^$100 OFF^S°uT j^r Any Roundtrip Sandwich We deliver to taiigate parties.
