    Osborne: Williams has made progress
WILLIAMS from Page 13
thing, he’ll be one of your better
players,”’ Williams said.
Nebraska coach Tom Osborne
said W illiams is one of the top five
or six recruits in a recruiting class
considered among the best in the
nation. He said it is unusual that a
player with Williams’s abilities
went unnoticed.
“He had some kind of conflict
with his coach that kept him from
getting the kind of recognition a
guy with his talents obviously de
serves,” Osborne said.
Williams used his 4.5 speed in
the40-yard dash toattractattention
as soon as he arrived on campus.
Osborne said Williams has
made good progress in learning the
offense and could get a chance to
play against Kansas.
“He’s in the picture,” Osborne
said. “We hope to give him a
chance to play within the next two
or three weeks to see how he does
relative to some of the other play
ers we have.”
Williams has been practicing
with the varsity and playing with
the freshmen this season. Friday he
will travel with the freshman team
to play the Air Force reserves, then
fly back for the Kansas game. The
rest of the freshman team will re
turn by bus.
Williams has dominated
Nebraska’s two freshman games,
carrying 14 limes for 148 yards and
four touchdowns.
Williams said he is anxious to
play with the varsity. That’s the
first step, he said.
And one day, he said, he is going
to play a major part in beating his
former coach’s alma mater.
“I will play a big pari in beating
Oklah< *a one day,” he said. “And
when it Happens, I hope he’s there
to see it.”
