    THE NEBRASKA STATE FAIR 1987 CLOSES SUMMER WITH ADVENTURE

Labor Day celebrants journey to
another world on the Moonraker ride at
the state fair last Monday.
Tired of being stared at, a painted
turtle in a Game and Parks Commission
exhibit does some of his own staring.
Neon lights shine brightly on the
Skywheel ride last weekend. Adventu
rous souls can find a variety of rides to
experience at the fair, which runs through
September 14.
Elmer Johnson, one of the hundreds
of people operating display booths at
the fair, works on a glass figure. John
son, who has praciticed the art of lamp
work for 17 years, has been coming to
the state fair for eight years. During the
summer, Johnson creates glass figures
at Pioneer Village in Minden.
Taking careful aim, a carnival patron
tries to win one of the many prizes avail
able on the midway.
