Tonight through Saturday Etc. 27th & Cornhusker 464-1492 Bookstores grant credit cards i _ F By Darcie Wiegert Staff Reporter _ The University Bookstore and the Nebraska Bookstore offer students the chance to buy now and pay later with bookstore credit cards. Students can save time and hassle in check-out lines and reap the benefits of having credit, said Larry Behrends, University Bookstore manager. The Nebraska Bookstore began offer ing credit cards this month because it is hard for students to get other credit cards without a credit history. The card requires no credit history and no co-signers. It should benefit students and store business, said Jerry Mullinix, Nebraska Bookstore manager. The initial credit limit for card holders is $300, which can be increased at the discretion of the Nebraska Book store officials, Mullinix said. The card is not limited to UNL students. Anyone over 18 may apply, but non-students must provide a credit history to receive a $500 beginning credit limit. The FirsTier Bank Card Center han dles the Nebraska Bookstore Credit Card, allowing students a chance to establish a credit history with FirsTier. Students can opt to charge it with bookstore credit cards. Card holders may use the card with a $5 minimum charge, an 18 percent annual percentage rate and no annual fee. The University Bookstore has been offering a similar card for three years. This card is limited to students, Beh rends said. “We’ve had very good response to the cards,” he said. The card requires no annual fee but charges a 14 percent annual percentage rate. Students need no credit history to receive a card, but those under 21 who have no work history need a parent to co-sign. The University Bookstore Ex press Card allows students to deter mine their own credit limit at $150, $250 or $350, Behrends said. Tables turn: Students teach library skills By Dan Dwinell Staff Reporter Initial experiences at Love Library can be confusing and almost trau matic, but help is on the way. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Teaching Council has given a $2,790 grant to the lbrary to start a “Library Information Services for Students” program. Students will teach the course about the library. Eva Sartori, assistant professor of libraries, explained that often students find other students more approachable than librarians. Three students are being trained to give the half-hour tours beginning Sept. 8. New employees will learn how to conduct tours and help students use computers, reference areas, and the card and periodical catalogs. Starting next semester, students will teach programs that help other students write term papers. The stu dents will explain how to use resources to find articles for reports, Sartori said. "Some students are afraid to come into the library,” she said. "It’s this kind of anxiety we’re trying to solve. ’ Even upperclassmen may need help with the new computers that will be installed during the year. The library will soon add a computerized biblio graphical retrieval service called "WIL SEARCH.” Students can enter a topic into the machine and later get several resources. | NBC I I National Bank of Commerce I I C<I mPW Office- I H Student Union, g p Uk 4 if i ■«!*** '-k^n.n / \ m iit m i rnv f m ^ >rv v-rr1 f (\. i> i 'j NBC offers students full-service banking . . . right on campus!
