“We better stop, huh?” Coco said.
“We have to,” I said.
“It’s already too crowded in here,"
Pete said.
I pulled over and stopped.
“Hop in Lester,” I said. “Get in the
back.”
"Thanks,” he said, getting in.
"We’re going right through Lincoln,
Lester," I said. “That’s the state capitol,
right up there.”
It stood firm in the sky, suggesting
greatness.
“He used to live there,” Coco said,
smiling proudly.

“Let’s stop there and get something
to eat," Pete said.
“You’re from Nebraska, then?" Lester
said to me.
“Oh, sort of,” I said. Then, “Yeah,
yeah, I’m from Nebraska. Why not? You
have to be from somewhere.”
I turned onto Highway 6 and sped
toward Lincoln, feeling a little like a
college freshman, hoping only for a cool
roommate and a football ticket. Hello,
lucky ladies, I thought, from here on
out it’s going to be nothing but party,
party, party.
“Hey, Lester,” Coco said. "Is Nebra
ska dull?”
"A Ford Galaxy 500,” Lester said.
“Imagine that.”

Cornick said he added a few snack
items to the menu that aren’t available
at other Burger Kings: potato skins,
nachos and cookies, all made in the
Burger King kitchen. He said he thought
these items would appeal to students
studying in the union.
I had no problems with the service,
but 1 can see where things might clog
up a big over the lunch hour when the
union Is full of hungry students. Cornick
said adding another cash register should
take care of the problem. That remains
to be seen.
Burger King will stay open longer
than its predecessor, the infamous
Union Square. Hours are Monday
through Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The
weekend hours are not set yet.
One final word: While I’m glad to
have a mjyor fast food chain in the
union, I can’t help but report mourn
the absence of Union Square.
Sure we joked about it, and with
good reason, but it was, after all, the
home of the Deluxe Burrito, filling and
only 85 cents.
