Cornhusker coach John Sanders and Bluejay coach Jim Hendry said there will be no special emphasis placed on the teams' 7 p.m. game at Rosenblatt Stadium, even though only 50 miles of interstate highway separates the schools. "I don't get into rivalries," Sanders said. "We play 60 games a year, and if you just load up for one, you might lose the next six. You have to play with the same intensity in all of them. "The bottom line is that we're playing a Division I opponent." Hendry echoed Sanders' sentiments. "Obviously, we would like to beat each other, but I don't think our team has lost perspective," he said. "We try to approach every game the same and just play hard." Both teams lost three of four confer ence games last weekend. Nebraska, 32-13, and 9-3 in the Big Eight, lost its series with Oklahoma State and relin quished its conference lead to the Cowboys. Creighton, 26-17, lost three of four games to Bradley after entering the series in a four-way tie for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bluejays followThursday's return match up with the Huskers with a weekend series against Wichita State. Nebraska will play Missouri this weekend in Lincoln, and Sanders said his thoughts are centered on this matchup. "We want to get a playing rhythm developed," he said. Nebraska first baseman and team captain Mark Kister said the Creighton game challenges as much as any other game. "It's just another team we have to beat," Kister said. "The biggest thing is we are striving to win 40 games. With the snow-out at Iowa State (earlier this season), we aren't going to have 60 games, so we almost have to win the rest." Nebraska has to win eight of its last 10 games to win 40, which would include this weekend's contest and a four-game series on May 9 and 10 against Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. Nebraska, rated No. 1 7 in this week's Baseball America poll, is led offensively by Kister, who has a .377 batting average and 50 runs batted in. Third baseman Ron Crowe has a team-leading 10 home runs. Outfielder Ken Ramos will try to extend his 19-game hitting streak against the Jays. His .367 batting aver age is second to Kister. The Huskers lead the series 32-15, including a split of four games last year. CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING CALL 472-2588 $2.75 minimum charge per day on commercial ads.
