Friday, April 17, 1987 Daily Nobraskan Pago 3 It's home sweet-smelling home; these roommates really are animals BARM BOYS from Page 1 "It's kind of a joke," Eitzmann says. In fact, they say they like their jobs. Eitzmann says caring for the animals makes him fed like he's at home, not in a city. Both Eitzmann and Eruns grew up on farms. Bruns' family raises cattle and corn near Chapman, and Eitz mann's has a dairy farm near Johnson. Their work hours aren't always regu lar. A couple of times somebody let out all the animals late at night. "We got a call from the police at about 4 a.m. and they said there was livestock running all over Lincoln," Bruns says. They got out of bed to round them up. But sometimes the animals only go a few blocks, Eitzmann says. He said somebody usually lets the sheep out at the beginning of the school year. If the ewes are lambing, Eitzmann and Bruns get up every few hours to watch them. The swine production class watches the sows farrow. They do chores after class every day, too, v.ith three or four other students. , Some people wonder if the smell of the livestock drifts up to the room, but it doesn't they say. They don't hear any sounds from the animals, either. The living quarters don't look barn like. There's no red paint or straw bales in the corner. Just bunk beds, a small refrigerator, a television and stereo, a couch for naps and a large coffee table strewn with papers and magazines. The Western decor is the only a typically collegiate aspect of the rooms: the sleeping area is separated from the liv ing room by saloon-type doors complete with cattle brands. Prints of cowboys and horses from a Western calendar adorn the walls. Eitzmann says a couple of friends he brought in to see the place were surprised. "They said, "Shit, this ain't a barn. . .' Most people, after they see it, think it's kind of neat," Eitzmann says. Eitzmann is in his first year at the Judging Pavilion, and Bruns is in his third. Bruns said he became interested in the job as a freshman when he took an animal science class and saw the guys who had the job then. "It makes living in Lincoln a lot eas ier," he says. rt- ri: rW Choice of the foil I I Y ryi I A 2. Steak Fries 3. Med.
