Despite the small size of the
Nebraska rowing team, the Corn
huskers placed No. 10 in the Heart
of Texas Regatta in Austin during
spring break.
More than 1,000 rowers were at
the regatta from 27 universities and
clubs from across the country. Kan
sas won the regatta. The Jayhawks'
team included 135 rowers, compared
to Nebraska's 24. Nebraska's team
was the smallest to finish in the top
10.
En route to their No. 10 finish,
the Huskers defeated Kansas State,
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State,
which finished 1 1th, 1 2th and 13th.
All three teams were twice the size
of Nebraska's.
Nebraska teams placed in the
finals. All of the Husker varsity
boats placed overall.
In the women's open-four event,
Nebraska finished third. Team
members were coxswain Stacy Motez,
Terrie Clement, Melissa Johnson,
Sarah Staples and Cathy Sukup.
The Nebraska men's pair, Paul
Larson and Steve Knapp, placed
second in that event.
The mixed-four with two men and
two women, also placed second.
