Friday, March 20, 1987 Daily Nebraskan Page 7 4rnr 'foe Mme of L 4 b at Margie TMeates 4 :.irK'iJ.i.vv iL The Magic Theatre's newest comedy production, "The Line of Least Exist ence," was written by Obie Award winning New York playwright Rosalyn Drexler with original music by Oma hans Mark Nelson, Frank Fong, Bill Farber and Eric Goolsby. It will be directed by guest artist Mike Hitzel berger. Omaha audiences will remem ber Drexler's popular wild comedy, "Room 17C," which the Magic Theatre premiered in 1983. Drexler's new comedy upsets apple carts while quick-change artists and false prophets slip on each other's banana peels. Here comes another red herring to catch us with our pants down, leaving us with silly grins as we compare how things are to how they should be. In this zany, comedic romp, "appearance is everything and style is a way of life," says a character in the play. Artistic director Jo Ann Schmidman said, "It's so American in its zaniness; American's live to laugh, we all can use a good laugh "The Line of Least Existence" provides plenty. Any resemb lance to someone you know is your own "delicious secret." "The Line of Least Existence" is a rollicking show with music that carries on the Marx Brothers tradition of exag gerating and immortalizing the famil iar. The main character, Dr. Taloon Fraak, an obstetrician-psychiatrist, has his maniacal fingers in underworld dealings. He is hounded by his pas sionate wife, crazed by his mistress, threatened by a mad patient, adored by his talking dog and spied upon by the "Feds," who may be more than an inno cent musical group. Drexler runs the audience through a verbal chase accompanied by an incredibly light hearted, eclectic musical score. Noted Omaha artist William Farmer designed and created the set, Kenda Slavin designed and executed the fabric work and costumes, and Jim Schum acher created the lighting design. Com pany members are Brian Bengtson, Margie Du Re, Bill Farber, Joe Fogarty, Frank Fong, Eric Goolsby, Mike Hitzel berger, Mike Nelson and Jennifer Shep ard. Recommended for mature viewers who enjoy a good laugh, "The Line of Least Existence" opened at the Omaha Magic Theatre, 1417 Farnam, on March 13. All performances begin at 7:30, March 20 through 23, 27 through 30. Make your reservations by calling 346-1227. The Omaha Magic Theatre is a non profit organization for the performing arts. This production is made possible in part by grants for the National Endowment for the Arts, United Arts Omaha and Target Stores, a division of Dayton Hudson Corporation. The residency of William Farmer is made possible through program servi ces of Metro Arts, supported in part by the Nebraska Arts Council, United Arts Omaha, Omaha and Douglas County.
