Either that or shot by a wigged out fascist protecting his home from drug-crazed loonies galavanting around on Friday night. I'm happy in that respect. He meant no harm. I was not pleased about the inner drives that led to his passionate dis play of anxiety in our living room. It would have been cliche to spout reverently, "He's a product of society." Indeed. That's a whopping load of pass-the-buck b.s. We are all products of society, one no better than the other. The point here is the dichotomy of labeling the Vietnam veteran. On one hand you have the twisted stereotype of "Rambo." Glorifying some distorted freak as a hero is nothing but lunacy. Commercializing that lurid phenomenon is worse. On the other side are those trying to tell the story of the " 'nam vets." The critically acclaimed movie "Platoon" atid an older classic, "Apocalypse Now," are snug in this genre. I dislike prophetic statements in 1,500 words or less; besides, they're always open to debate. Too many gray areas. Check for weapons All I'm saying is: Lend an open mind to people with experiences outside your own. For me, to come back from a war with any type of sanity is a bad gamble. So if a large, saucer-eyed drunk sud denly bursts into your living room and begins ranting about seemingly irrele vant "kids" check him for weapons. If he has none, chances are he just wants' a few questions answered. It would also seem to make Friday even ings a little less terrifying and ... a little more interesting.
