Jesse Jackson w ill speak at the 20th annual conference of the Nebraska Model United Nations Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room. Jackson will speak on "The Power of the Individual." The conference is a meeting of high school and college students from Lincoln, Omaha, elsewhere in Nebraska and out of state. In a mock trial of the United Nations Conference, the students debate current international issues ranging from nuclear disarmament to world hunger. The students learn debating skills and parliamentary procedure as they research and apply policies and preferences of the countries they represent. Usually 40 to 65 delegates attend the conference, said Michelle Garwood, secretary-general of the Nebraska Model United Nations. Lincoln plans 'Heart of City' weekend Mayor Roland Luedtke has pro claimed Feb. 7 and 8 as the first annual "Heart of the City Weekend." Although the event encourages visi tors to come to Lincoln, advertisements are aimed mainly at Lincolnites. "We can enjoy our own city ... and celebrate downtown ourselves. Down town is the heart of Lincoln," Luedtke said. Activites will include city tours, a Sweetheart Ball for the American Heart Association and a Chocoholic Buffet sponsored by the Lincoln Haymarket Association.
