For others it's a habit. General registration, this year, like many others, finds thousands of students looking for open classes. Anthony Schkade, assistant director of Registration and Records, said 2,017 students went through general regis tration on Thursday and between 1,500 to 1,800 were expected on Friday. Students wait until the last minute to register for classes for many reasons. Schkade said he's heard them all, and none of the excuses are very good. Some students don't pre-register because they are too lazy or are being newly admitted to the university or are being re-admitted to the university, and many students just don't get around to it, Schkade said. Schkade said between 75 to 100 employees are involved in helping students get classes during general registration. Students create problems for them selves by not pre-registering for classes, Schkade said. "Don't wait until the last minute to do anything at the university," Schkade said. "Be one of the first; the rewards are significant.", Kim Smith, a second-year graduate student at UNL, said general registration has become a habit for her and it works out. General registration seems easier, Smith said, and she has a better idea of what classes are available for graduate students. "I suppose it would be easier to pre register," she said, "but this always works, so it's no problem." General registration may be a habit for Smith, but it won't be a habit for sophomore Craig Anderson. Anderson had never gone through general registration before and said he never wanted to do it again. i American Heart Association WERE FIGHTING FOR -YOUR LIFE
