The No. 7 Huskers are 38-0 in Big Eight tournament play. Nebraska coach Terry Pettit said his team will have to play consistently and not take anybody lightly if it is to win the Big Eight Championship. The Huskers are coming off a second place finish at the Wendy's Classic last weekend in Stockton, Calif., and are playing very well right now, Pettit said. Pettit said that with the exception of the Huskers, the Big Eight is pretty even. The Big Eight Championships are the most important tournament for the Huskers because if they win, they get an automatic NCAA tournament berth, he said. "We prepare for the conference championships as if it's the most important tournament we play in," Pettit said. "If we didn't, our record wouldn't be what it is today." The Huskers, in their 12th season, also will be going for another record, their 400th victory. Their overall record is 399-110, a .783 winning percentage. Pettit is in his 1 1th season at Nebraska. His record is 31683 for a .782 winning percentage. For the first time in Big Eight his tory, all six of Nebraska's starters were named to the All-Big Eight tean. Seniors Tisha Delaney, Karen Dahlgren and Enid Schonewise were named to the first team. Named on the second team were Kathi DeBoer and freshman Virgi nia Stahr. Lori Endicott was selected as honorable mention. It was the third time Dahlgren has been named to the All-Big Eight team. She is hitting .451 against Big Eight opponents and has 76 kills for the sea son. Schonewise is hitting .424 against Big Eight opponents and has 111 kills. Pettit said last weekend's tourna ment in Stockton was a good tourna ment for the Huskers because it gave them a chance to play at the level of intensity needed for the Big Eight Championships and the NCAA tourna ment. The Huskers were picked by the Big Eight coaches to defend their Big Eight title successfully. The rest of the teams were picked as follows: Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa State, Kansas State and Missouri in a tie, and Colorado. The Huskers will play their first match Saturday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Missouri-Iowa State game. The finals will be Sunday at 2 p.m. The Huskers are hitting .383 against Big Eight teams and are holding Big Eight opponents to a hitting percentage of .109. Nebraska men will face SMU SWIMMING from Page 7 Wyoming coach Ann Vicchy said that if anyone will end Nebraska's dominance in the relay competition, it probably won't be her squard because of the phase the Cowgirls program is in. With a massive rebuilding pro ject just in its second year, Vicchy said she expects the Wyoming relays to be the toughest meet the 1-1 Cowgirls have been in so far. "The one advantage we have is this meet is at home," Vicchy said. "We will put all of our strength into our relays as well as anything else. Nebraska's men's swimming team will face the No. 15-ranked SMU Mustangs Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center pool. The meet begins at 3 p.m. F3 amw n n . ii .
