Huskers win big
in last 2 games
VOLLEYBALL from Page 9
After six side outs, the Huskers
put the match away by scoring
eight unanswered points behind
Kathi DeBoer's four service aces.
The Huskers had five service
aces in the first game, with the
other two aces coming from Karen
Dahlgren. The first game ended
when Virginia Stahr slammed a
kill right in the middle of the
Cyclone defense.
"I thought Iowa State played
us pretty tough in the first half of
game one," Pettit said.
In game two, the Huskers were
ahead the whole game, as they
jumped out to a early 4-0 lead.
After nine side outs, the Cyclones
scored their first point after
Nebraska's Angie Millikin hit a
shot out of bounds. That was the
closest the Cyclones got to the
Huskers as Nebraska scored six
straight points to take a 10-1
lead. On the next point, the
Cyclones lost their top player
Evans when she twisted her ankle
trying to dig Dahlgren's shot in
the middle.
Iowa State coach Vicki Mealer
said the ankle injury to Evans
was not that serious and that she
might be able to play in their
next match on Thursday.
After Evans was replaced by
Jill Sharp, the Huskers scored
four straight points behind
Schonewise's three kills andTisha
Delaney's service ace to make
the score 14-2. The game ended
when Schonewise served her first
service ace of the night.
In game three, the Cyclones
jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead,
but the Huskers, behind the
serving of DeBoer and the hitting
of Dahlgren quickly jumped out
to a 13-4 lead. The game ended
when Stahr blocked a Katy Lav
ery shot to force the ball back on
the Cyclones side.
