Top seniors honored
UNL graduate featured at banquet
Lynne Grasz, manager of station ser
vices in the Television Information
Office of the National Association of
Broadcasters in New York City, will be
the featured speaker during a banquet
honoring top high school students from
Nebraska and surrounding states Mon
day at UNL
Th event highlights UNL's third an
nual Distinguished Scholars Day.
The dinner, sponsored by the World
Herald, will recognize 240 of the top

high school seniors from Nebraska plus
selected scholars from surrounding
states, their parents and the universi
ty's 1980 World-Herald Scholars, Susan
Langford of Hastings and Jeff Fowler of
Bellevue. The dinner begins at 6:30
p.m. in the Nebraska Inion.
Other program participants will in
clude UNL Chancellor Martin A. Mas
sengale and G. Woodson Howe, vice
president and executive editor of the
Omaha World-Herald.
The event culminates a daylong pro
gram of academic and informational
events sponsored by UNL, the Worid
Herald Foundation, the NU Founda
tion, the University of Nebraska Alumni
Association and the UNL Student Alumni
Association.
Also in 1984, Grasz was selected as
one of 60 outstanding "Women in
Communications." She is the recipient
of any Emmy and a Broadcasters Pro
motion Association International Award
of Excellence.
A 1966 journalism graduate of UNL,
Grasz spent 10 years as director of
promotion and public relations for
KOLN-TV7KGIN-TV in Lincoln before
joining CBS in 1976.
Deadline
for McAuliffe
Award extended
The Nebraska State Education
Association has contributed
$1,025 to support the new Christa
McAuliffe award established at
The award will be given for the
first time on the anniversary of
the teacher-astronaut's death in
January.
Dr. James O'Hanlon, dean of
UNL's Teachers College, said the
deadline for the McAuliffe award
nominations has been extended
until Nov. 14.
Teachers of kindergarten
through 12th grade from any
school in Nebraska are eligible
for a cash award and plaque
commemorating McAuliffe.
Nominations may be made by
students, teachers, parents or
others. Nomination letters, not
exceeding two pages in length,
should be sent to Dean James

their own concerns and to share their discov
