Soukup Staff Reporter Students who want to do something fun over the winter break and earn credit hours at the same time may find a "Winterim" trip ideal. The International Educational Ser vices program at UNL has 12 study tours for both students and non-students, with the option for students to earn three credits in certain areas. In addition, there is one strictly non credit tour that allows travelers to view European culture in four different cities. The study tours visit Great Britain, China, Israel and several European countries. Program Coordinator Christa Joy said students can receive credits for 200 to graduate-level classes, de pending on the tour. Each trip is led by a UNL or UNO professor, Joy said. Requirements vary from journals to papers to drawings for the drawing class. Students should arrange things with the respective professor. Prices for the trips vary from $1,200 to $2,100. The price includes tuition, round-trip airfare, hotel accommoda tions, daily breakfast, group projects planned in the itinerary and transpor tation for excursions. People spend generally $300 to $500 in spending money on dinners, souvenirs, individ ual activities and other personal expenses, Joy said. The tours go from Dec. 26 to Jan. 11. A $100 deposit is needed by Oct. 31, and the balance of costs will be required by a mid-November date that varies depending on the tour. All trips have two informational meetings. The IES office also has what they call their "Winterim Primer," Joy said. Travelers receive packets con taining flight tickets, hotel reserva tions, itineraries and information about the countries they will be visiting at this meeting, Joy said. Foreign stu dents from those countries on the itin erary will be at the meeting to give information. With the increase of terrorist activi ties in Europe and the Mideast in the last couple years, some people have expressed concern about travelling there. "There has been some decline, and students will notice there has been more security overseas," Joy said, "but the odds of harm are higher on the interstate." Joy could not say whether the decline in interest in overseas travel was a direct result of terrorist attacks. f rorTnr II 1 0)UJ1 JJ V BEER JJ 1 Theta Xi Fraternity presents their 1986 Haunted House October 29, 30, 31 dusk until midnight 1535 'R' Street WE DARE YOU TO ENTER!
