ARTWEAR from Page 9
For the gentlemen, big pleated pants
with narrow waistlines, inspired by
Fred Astaire movies, and jackets with
broad shoulders make every man look
and feel his best. Black is currently the
primary color in Ciemnoczolowski's
menswear designs.
Narwicz's designs for "Baby Snakes"
have a feeling of wearability and com
fort with a different twist on current
styles available in stores. Christina's
soft knit dresses can be worn full and
loose or pulled up to create the
appearance of a two-piece shirt and
top. Two-piece outfits are also availa
ble, dominanted by full-flared skirts.
For all involved, hard work, long
hours, and dedication to art were the
prime forces in making the style show's
success.
For the models, the day starts in the
morning with choreography practice,
'Hard work, long hours
and dedication to art
were the prime forces
in the show's success.'
Beforehand, models may also meet with
the individual designers to assure proper
fittings for the garments. When pur
chased, the garments are altered to fit
the new owner. Prices start at just $20
for some of these one-of-a-kind items
and can go as high as $1,200 'for the
original artwear designs. For the de
signers, finding ideas for new clothing
and constructing outfits takes weeks
or months from start to finish.
Kemper said about $ 1 ,000 was needed
to fund this particular show. This
includes material and labor costs for
light and sound technicians; But the
volunteer labor from the models and
makeup and hair designers minimize
the costs.
All of the designs featured at the
show, along with many others, can be
purchased at "In Active Pursuit," 1046
Howard Street, in the Old Market Pas
sageway. Store hours are from noon to 5
p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; noon
to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 1 to
5 p.m. Sundays. All designs are origi
nals, and the prices are very reasonable.
If groups such as "In Active Pursuit"
catch on, the Midwest finally may have
some of the talent here recognized.
Until then, this creative and innovative
group of designers can enjoy the dis
tinction of being at the heart of original
designs in the Midwest.
