UNL video classes 'adequate'
VIDEOS from'Page 1
By teaching the accounting class
with videos, Hubbard said, the depart
ment will have enough instructors for
smaller sections of Accounting 202,
producing "an overall adequate educa
tion" in introductory accounting.
Four 201 classes without videos were
added at the last minute to uphold the
department's commitment that every
student qualified would have the op
portunity to take the class.
"To my knowledge we have not
turned away any students that meet
the prerequisites," Hubbard said.
The two video classes, shown in the
College of Business Administration
auditorium, are each supervised by two
teaching assistants. A professor is
available after the class to answer
questions.
Some students preparing for their
first video class Thursday said they
were optimistic.
"It should be no different. The class
is so big anyway, we wouldn't have a
chance to ask questions, but after class
we have the same opportunity as any
other class," said Tammy Zimmerman,
a sophomore economics major.
Other students, however, said the
classes offer too many disadvantages.
Junior Vinnie Macklin, a business mar
keting major, is enrolled in a section
with a live instructor.
"I would think the class would be
worthless, people goofing off, talking. . ,
you wouldn't get anything done," he
said.
Since live and video section share
similar exams, Hubbard said, the de
partment will study the results of both
class types this year and compare stu
dent performances,
Accounting 201 videos are on reserve
in Love Libary and the CBA basement.
Tapes also can be rented at both book
stores for $5.
