Daily Nebraskan
Nebraska products pushed
Nebraskans could add millions of
dollars to the state's economy if they
would buy products made in Nebraska,
said Coleridge Sen. Elroy Hefner Mon
day. Hefner and Scottsbluff Sen. Bill Nic
hols are co-chairmen of a Republican
party promotion that is organizing state
and county fair booths this year that
will emphasize Nebraska products.
Free product samples and informa
tion will be given out at the booths by
county Republican groups and at the
Nebraska State Fair by the Nebraska
Republican party, Hefner said.
"There are a lot of different products
in Nebraska a lot more than people

realize," he said.
Nebraska citizens could be consum
ing Nebraska products, while contri
buting to the economy, he said. Hefner
called it a "proud effort."
Some of the products made, manu
factured or grown in Nebraska include
Martha Gooch Noodles, Wimmers sau
sage products, Eagle Roast Farms' Corn
husker All-Star Cereals, Neu Cheese
products, Gilette dairy products, Kitty
Clover and Weaver's potato chips, UNL's
East Campus Store's dairy and cheese
products, Fairbury Foods bacon bits,
Grandma's Jellies, Dorothy Lynch

Mormac, Sunshine, Platte Valley, Ear's
Best, and Mr. Popcorn Widman's Coun

The Republican party's promotion is
modeled after a similar effort last
Christmas called Husker Holiday Gifts.
Nebraskans were asked to give Nebraska-made
gifts to friends and relatives
instead of buying out-of-state products.
Hefner, who was involved with the hol
iday promotion, said it was a success
and predicts another success with the
newer county and state fair promotion.

Peace marchers' hosts
have mixed reactions
PEACE from Page 1
"It was like they would play some
music, talk the march up, take
donations and leave town," Dyer
said. "The marchers appeared to be
made up of young trendies who
wanted to impress others with their
ideals or political statements, and
the older veterans who want one
last party on the road."
Bill Jones, also of Lincoln, had
better luck with his guests. He said
though the women marchers had a
place to stay at the YWCA, a lot of
the men had to find their own lodg
ing. He had two men and one woman
stay in his home, all between the
ages of 18 and 20. He met the
marchers at the Capitol rally held
after the march into Lincoln.
"We had a lot of fun," Jones said,
"and the girl made us all braided
wrist bracelets."
Elizabeth Meyer, executive dir
ector of the YWCA of Lincoln, said
the approximately 180 women and
children who stayed at the YWCA
while the marchers were in town
were very cooperative and pleasant
to be with.
"It was a very positive expe
rience," she said. "I was impressed
by the commitment and the level of
energy they seemed to radiate."
