as they learned about Indian cul
ture Sunday night at the 15th annual
India Night in the Nebraska Union.
Association President Vyay Tat
kar called the event a "unifying
frrce" for Indian faculty, students
the Lincoln community.
The evening's events, which were
sponsored by the India Association,
included a slide show, a fashion
show in which 12 children modeled
native dress from various parts of
India, a recital of the "sarod," a
classical wooden instrument that
was the forerunner of the lute, a skit
and a dijJay cf handicrafts of jade,
wood, leather, ivory and ccltoiv
Although the Indian student
population at UNL has declined
within the last several years, India
Night has continued to be a major
event, said Peter Levitov, director of
International Educational Services,
The night was designed to pro
vide a "representee sampling of the
culture of a diverse country where
15 languages and 56 dialects are
spcltjn," Tatkar wid.
