The Beat Farmers
Beat Farmers to; play their
bar busting tunes at Grove
By Charles Lieurance
Senior Reporter
Who is this man Country Dick? What
pack of coyotes sired him, from what
Band Preview
godforsaken crest of topsoil spitting
tornado wind did he come, why's he so
nasty and why is his band, The Beat
Farmers, playing roots rock V roll with
'80s vengeance?
I don't know the answers to these
questions. I don't know what motivates
this band. !
I'm listening to The Beat Farmer's
LP, "Tales of the New West;" There's a
gargling solo, the raunchiest-lyrics this
side of sailordom, songs about mur
derin', fornicatin', beer, whiskey and
Country Dick's favorite unmentionable
pastimes.
Tonight, The Farmers Rolle
Dexter-Love, Jerry Raney, Buddy Blue
and the aforementioned spawn of
Satan, Country Dick (no real name, no
past history, no age and probably a
drawer full of warrants smelling up
some file in some lawless cesspool like
Winnemucca, Nevada), are playing at
the Grove.
Playing is probably the wrong word,
It's fun but it's a risky game. Country
Dick occasionally throws bottles at the
audience to get their attention. He
doesn't take any crap off the crowd.
The Grove show starts at 9 p.m.
Country Dick probably metes out some
kind of wicked punishment for late
comers, so best to be on time. Charlie
Burton opens the show, so leave your
civility at the door for the duration.
They'll hold it for you while you listen
to music that can only be described in
expletives. Move your bodily parts or
the band will make you.
