Tuesday, April 8, 1986 Page 6 hnmnsi Sites Daily Nebraskan n a n n OH IT mm By Kristi Reetz Staff Reporter The Arizona State Sun Devils wer en't satisfied just winning the men's gymnastics NCAA team title Saturday afternoon. They went on to win three individual titles Saturday night in the floor exercise, the parallel bars and the high bar. Jerry Burrell, a senior from Arizona State, along with Brian Ginsberg of UCLA were the floor exercise cham pions. Both scored a 9.80 to beat Chad Fox of New Mexico, who scored a 9.65. "Winning the team title is definitely the tops and this is just icing on the cake," Burrell said of his win. Burrell said tying for the champion ship took nothing away from the title. "That's just the way it came out, but I'm really psyched about this," he said. Ginsberg agreed that the tie didn't make any difference. "It's a great feeling," he said. "This makes up for not making the team finals." Dan Hayden won with the parallel bars and high bar titles. "It feels great," Hayden said. "Even though I was ahead early I had to give it my all. I did just that, gave it all I had." Kevin Davis and Tom Schlesinger of Nebraska tied for fourth on the parallel bars with a score of 9.70. Wes Suter of Nebraska scored a 9.60 to finish sixth. Hayden won the high bar with a 9.85. He also received a standing ovation from the Sports Center crowd. "This is a great way to top off the weekend," Hayden said. "I'm tired, but I think going all out is the only way to do it." Freshman Curtis Holdsworth of UCLA won the pommel horse. Holdsworth scored a 9.75 to beat out second place Hayden, who scored a 9.70. Chad Fox, a New Mexico freshman, scored a season high 9.875 to claim the vault title. Arizona State senior John Sweeney placed second with a 9.575. Mark Diab of Iowa State won his second straight still rings title. Diab, a senior, beat out Houston Baptist fresh man Paul O'Neill, 9.85 to 9.80. "It's just as good as last year," Diab said of his title. "I'd have to say I'm really shocked. I wasn't really expect ing it."
