BARS from Page 7 Of course if you're under 21 in this backwards state, you won't be able to enjoy many of the places we'll mention -for possibly several years. We'll sign any petition you might want to start around to make it so, yes, even the unborn can drink. Bill thinks they ought to lower the drinking age to 16 for women and raise it to 23 for men. Without further ado, and in no par ticular order, Lincoln's best college bars: The Zoo Bar, 136 N. 14th St. Charles: This is the best bar in Lin coln. It's also a dark, dirty cave. I like drinking in dark, dirty caves. The music is the best, the bartenders are impatient and on a good night it's so crowded that all the air in the place screams and runs out the door. On a not so good night it's a good place to go sit alone and find something to cry in your 3810 Normal BIvd- 4B3-4726j "' Sebastian Artistic Center , , i . j ""m " 1 Daily Nebraskan beer about. Cultural cripples wouldn't like this bar, even though a lot of cultural crip ples wander in here. This is where the bums who hang out around the 0 Street McDonald's got the way they are. It's fun if you know someone here or if you bring an army. Otherwise it's scary. Don't bring a romantic date unless you want to ditch her. Bill: The Zoo Bar is great if it has a quality act performing, such as The Wallets or Matt "Guitar" Murphy. Oth erwise, you can get everything else it offers cheaper and with a better atmos phere at O'Rourke's. We both give the Zoo Bar five kegs. O'Rourke's, 121 N. 14th St. Bill: This is the best bar in Lincoln. It's got everything a simple drinker wants. I should know because I'm sim ple. The atmosphere is lighted beer signs on the wall and TV constantly showing sports. There's a pool table in the back and the jukebox stays as far away from the Top 40 as 1966 is from 1986. O'Rourke's beer is about the cheap est in any bar in Lincoln. And there's free popcorn. It's one of the few places you can drink alone in Lincoln and not care that you're drinking alone. O'Rourke's is a hole in the wall among hole in the walls. Very few Greeks hang out at O'Rourke's. Charles: Very few Greeks hang out at O'Rourke's. But there are the ruggers. The jukebox is great but it relies too heavily on songs from "The Big Chill" soundtrack. I like hanging around peo ple who are obsessed with baseball, so this bar is a lot of fun in the summer. O'Rourke's requires tolerance. Artsy fartsy types hang out here and so do people whose idea of art is a velvet Elvis painting. See BARS on 9 Thursday, February 27, 1986
