In celebration of the 100th anniver
sary of the publication of Mark Twain's '
literary classic, "The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn," American Playhouse
will present a new four-part adaptation
of the novel, airing over four consecu
tive weeks beginning tonight at 8 p.m.
on the Nebraska ETV network. Ameri
can Playhouse is closed-captioned for
the hearing-impaired.
This adaptation of one of America's
most popular novels captures life on
the banks of the Mississippi, as well as
the complex characters of the times.
Newcomer Patrick Day plays the title
role. The dramatization also features
an all-star cast including Jim Dale and
Barnard Hughes as a pair of crafty con
men, the Duke and the King.
Lillian Gish portrays Mrs. Loftus,
with Frederic Forrest as Pap Finn,
Richard Kiley as Col. Grangerford, But
terfly McQueen as the Blind Negress,
Geraldine Page as Sally Phelps, Sada
Thompson as Widow Douglas and Samm
Art Williams as Jim, the runaway slave.

Twain's novel since 1920 all em
phasizing the great adventure side of
the novel.
This adaptation is the sixth Twain
classic to be adapted for public televi
sion by executive producer Perry and
producer Jane Iredale. The first five
efforts, which were co-produced by the
Nebraska ETV Network and Great
Amwell Company, were "Life on the
Mississippi," "The Private History of a
Campaign that Failed," "The Myste
rious Stranger," "The Innocents Abroad"
and "Pudd'nhead Wilson."
